Airtel has added YouTube Premium to its ₹200 entertainment top-up for prepaid customers, through a partnership with YouTube announced on 23 October. The pack gives 30GB of extra data for 28 days, along with access to Prime Video (mobile edition), JioHotstar, ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV and more than 18 other streaming services through Airtel’s apps.
YouTube Premium removes ads across YouTube, including Shorts, keeps videos playing in the background and allows downloads for offline viewing. It also includes YouTube Music Premium.
Why it matters
For prepaid users who already pay separately for YouTube Premium, the Airtel YouTube Premium offer could fold that cost into a data top-up. The details matter, though. The ₹200 pack is an add-on, not a full plan: you need an active Airtel prepaid base plan, and the top-up does not include calls or SMS. The YouTube Premium benefit lasts only as long as the top-up’s 28 days, so you have to buy the pack and claim the benefit again each month to keep it. TelecomTalk notes that the benefit ends with the pack, not 28 days from the day you claim it, so it pays to claim it straight away.
Airtel has not said publicly whether people who already pay for YouTube Premium on their Google account can use the offer, or how it works with an existing family plan.
What you can do
- Make sure you have an active Airtel prepaid plan before buying the ₹200 top-up.
- After recharging, open the Airtel Thanks app, go to Rewards & OTTs and claim YouTube Premium the same day.
- Compare the cost with what you pay for YouTube Premium directly in the YouTube app, and think about whether you will use the extra 30GB and the other streaming apps.
- If you already pay for YouTube Premium, read the terms in the Airtel app first, and cancel your existing subscription only once the Airtel benefit is active.
- Set a reminder before day 28 if you want to continue without a break.
