Google has made Gemini Notebook a Connected App inside the Gemini app, so you can create and manage notebooks from a normal Gemini chat. The change, announced on the Google Workspace Updates blog on 23 October, covers personal Google accounts as well as Workspace users. It is switched on by default everywhere except the European Economic Area, which means it should already be available to users in India.
Gemini Notebook is Google’s space for gathering sources, notes and chats around one topic. With the new connection, you can ask Gemini to create a notebook, add a source or a copy of the current chat to it, list your notebooks and their sources, or answer a question using what a notebook already contains. Typing @Gemini Notebook calls it directly, and Gemini can also bring it in on its own when a request seems to need it.
Why it matters
For students, and for anyone researching a purchase, a trip or a work project, this cuts out the back and forth between a chat and a separate notes space. You could keep a running notebook for exam revision or a visa application and add to it in the middle of a conversation. It also means Gemini can draw on your notebooks when it decides they are relevant, so it is worth knowing where the switch is.
What you can do
- Try it by typing @Gemini Notebook in a Gemini chat, followed by what you want, such as creating a notebook on a topic.
- To turn it off, open Settings, then Connected Apps, in the Gemini app.
- On a work or school account, your administrator decides whether Gemini Notebook is available to you.
