The FASTag annual pass lets private car, jeep and van owners pay once for a year of national highway tolls. It costs Rs 3,075 in 2026-27 and covers up to 200 toll plaza crossings or one year, whichever ends first. So if you drive on highways often, it is worth knowing how it works before you buy.

Quick answer

  • Fee: Rs 3,075 for FY 2026-27, up from Rs 3,000 before 1 April 2026.
  • Validity: one year or 200 toll plaza crossings, whichever comes first.
  • For eligible non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag.
  • Activates within two hours, after paying on the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI website.

What the FASTag annual pass covers

NHAI launched the pass on 15 August 2025. According to the Press Information Bureau, it works at about 1,150 fee plazas on national highways and national expressways. The release does not extend it to state highway tolls or other local tolls.

It is meant only for non-commercial vehicles that already have a valid FASTag. Taxis, trucks and other commercial vehicles are not covered. Because the pass sits on your existing tag, you do not need a new sticker.

How to buy the FASTag annual pass

The process is simple, but follow the order below.

  1. Make sure your FASTag is active, linked to your vehicle number and not blacklisted.
  2. Open the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI website.
  3. Choose the annual pass for your vehicle and pay the one-time fee.
  4. Wait for activation, which the PIB says happens within two hours on the FASTag linked to the vehicle.

Next, check the tag balance and pass status before your trip. If the pass is not showing, contact your FASTag issuer or the highway helpline before reaching a toll plaza.

Is the FASTag annual pass worth it?

Do a quick sum. Rs 3,075 divided by 200 crossings comes to about Rs 15.4 a crossing. So the pass saves money only if the tolls you normally pay are higher than that, and if you will use most of the 200 crossings within the year.

For example, a family that drives a long route a few times a year may not reach 200 crossings. However, a daily commuter on a tolled national highway may use them within months. Because the pass ends at one year or 200 crossings, unused trips do not carry over.

Common mistakes to avoid

The first mistake is buying for a commercial vehicle. The pass is only for eligible non-commercial vehicles. Another is assuming it covers every toll, including state roads and city bridges.

Also, do not buy it on a tag with a mismatched vehicle number or a pending KYC. Then the pass may fail at the plaza. Still, the safest step is to check your tag details a day earlier. If you pay many small bills by app, our guide to UPI AutoPay mandates helps you keep recurring payments in check.

Renewal and fee changes

NHAI revises the fee each financial year under the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008. The fee rose by Rs 75 from 1 April 2026. As a result, check the current amount in the Rajmarg Yatra app before you pay, instead of relying on old posts.
